    Transaction Fee

A per-transaction charge applied to specific activity such as cash advances or balance transfers.

    What It Means

Transaction fees are separate from interest and apply at the time a specific activity occurs. Common examples include balance transfer fees (3% to 5%), cash advance fees (3% to 5% or a flat minimum), and foreign transaction fees (1% to 3%). These fees can substantially reduce the value of promotional offers and should be factored into any breakeven analysis.
